GEIS was established in 2019 following the spin-off of several businesses and assets that ABB had acquired from GE on July 1, 2018:
• Shanghai GE Breakers Co., Ltd. (Industrial Breaker Joint Venture – CJV)
• Shanghai GE Guangdian Co., Ltd. (Equipment Joint Venture – EJV)
• Shanghai GE-Guangdian Electrical Component Co., Ltd. (Low-Voltage Component Joint Venture – DJV)
• The import/export and distribution business previously managed by Shanghai GE Enterprise Development Co., Ltd. (GEED), which was later closed
After the separation, products from these businesses were rebranded as AEG for the China market and as GEIS for global markets.
The EJV and CJV were both founded in 2000, marking GE’s entry into local production of medium- and low-voltage electrical equipment and components, with a focus on circuit breakers, switchgear, and dry-type transformers.
In 2008, the DJV was established to localize production of Record Plus MCCBs and MCBs.
