GEIS Acquires Shanghai Autowell Power Electronics Co., Ltd., Expanding into Medium Voltage Drive and Power Quality Solutions

2026-06-30 14:26

Strategic acquisition adds the SolidDrive medium-voltage VFD platform — featuring sensorless vector control, up to 25,000 kW capacity, and liquid-cooled high-power configurations — and SamrtWave Active Power Filter solutions to the GEIS product portfolio.

GEIS (GEIS Electrical Protection) announced the acquisition of Shanghai Autowell Power Electronics Co., Ltd. (“Autowell”), a leading manufacturer of medium voltage (MV) power electronics and power quality equipment. The transaction marks a significant expansion of the GEIS technology portfolio and reinforces the company’s commitment to delivering comprehensive electrical solutions to industrial and infrastructure customers worldwide.

SolidDrive MV VFD Technology

Using sensorless vector control technology, SolidDrive is powered by a 32-bit high-speed digital signal processor (DSP) and combining dedicated LSI chips with the latest-generation IGBT power devices, SolidDrive delivers fully digital, high-performance motor control without requiring external speed feedback devices.

The SolidDrive platform covers output voltages of 3 kV, 6 kV, 6.6 kV, and 10 kV, with power ratings spanning 220 kW to 25,000 kW. It employs a cell-series multilevel topology with a multipulse phase-shifting isolation transformer at the input, achieving harmonic cancellation that complies with IEC 61800 and GB/T 14549-93 standards — without requiring input or output filters.

SmartWave Active Power Filter (APF)

SmartWave APF provides customers with industry-leading harmonic mitigation and reactive power compensation solutions. These products address growing regulatory and operational demands for power quality across a broad range of applications.

Serving Industrial and Infrastructure Markets

Under Honeywell brand, Autowell’s products serve a broad range of end markets, with major applications in heavy industry — including oil and gas, mining, rubber mixing, and cement — as well as infrastructure sectors such as water treatment, municipal utilities, ports, and building systems. The high-power, high-reliability profile of SolidDrive and Autowell’s APF technology aligns directly with the demanding requirements of these segments.

Dual-Brand Strategy for Global Reach

Following the acquisition, Autowell will maintain its existing Honeywell brand in its current markets. For global expansion, Autowell’s full product range — including the SolidDrive MV VFD series and APF solutions — will be marketed and distributed under the GEIS brand through the company’s network of channel partners and system integrators.

“The acquisition of Autowell is a transformative step for GEIS. Their deep expertise in medium voltage drives and power quality technology — now embodied in the SolidDrive product line — perfectly complements our switchgear, transformer, and protection product portfolio, enabling us to offer a truly complete MV/LV electrical solution to our customers globally. We look forward to bringing Autowell’s innovations to new markets.”
